Apple Inc. has agreed to pay $5 billion to buy Beats Electronics, Apple’s biggest audio-video unit.
The deal, the biggest acquisition in the company’s history, will bring Beats to a range of Apple devices, including the iPhone, Apple TV and Mac computers.
The sale is part of a $7 billion buyout of Beats, the headphone maker that Apple bought for $3 billion in 2014.
Beats is also the parent company of Beats Music, which is the music streaming service that launched in 2014 and has become Apple’s top subscription music service.
The $5-billion deal is subject to regulatory approvals and approval by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which said Friday it would announce the deal as soon as possible.
