Google is getting into the direct wireless gaming space with a new product called Gefen TV, which promises to “bring direct wireless game-playing to your living room”.
Gefens TV, developed by Google’s gaming team, aims to bring a gamepad, a controller and a display that will run direct from your TV via an HDMI cable.
GefEN TV will be available in the UK in June.
It’s available to buy for £39.99.
Gefen’s direct wireless product is the first time the company has released an entry-level gaming console to the market.
This is the company’s first foray into the market for consoles, and the first direct wireless device in the form of a consumer product.
“Direct wireless gaming is a natural next step for us and we’re looking forward to partnering with other leading game publishers to bring these new features to their games,” said Gefenfors VP of product management, Adam Giese, in a statement.
“With Gefenh TV, we’re delivering a full-featured controller and gamepad that can be used with your TV, with support for all the best streaming games available today, plus full support for streaming on multiple devices at once.”
Gefenh will have the ability to support up to four gaming consoles on a single TV.
Google’s statement said the controller and controller support included support for “all current and upcoming games”, with the ability for users to “access” all their favorite games and content from a single screen.
Giefen TV is currently being sold for $39.90 via Google Play, and is currently available in Germany, Austria, Spain, Finland, Belgium, and Sweden.
