The new technology is the result of a $2.2 billion $9.5 billion deal between Intel and wireless device maker MeeGo.
In a press release from Intel, MeeGoes chief executive Mark Dolan says that the new device will be the world’s first “smart TV,” a device that will be powered by the latest wireless chips.
Intel says the device is designed to provide access to a wider range of programming and media sources than ever before.
“Our vision for the next generation of smart TV technology is to transform how people consume and enjoy TV content,” said Dolan.
“Our new smart TV will provide the user with a TV that is optimized for each of their unique viewing habits.
We believe that the next wave of TV content will be available on a new platform that enables content creators to bring their creations to consumers faster and better than ever.”
MeeGo will continue to be a member of Intel’s TV division and work with the company to develop its wireless product, Dolan said.
